Winter 2012-13: Giant Vintage Chewie Snow Gauge

As tradition demands, we’re measuring the current precipitation with the Galactically-recognized Giant Vintage Chewie Snow Scale.

11:48 a.m., Eastern Standard Time. Already a few inches on the ground, but not enough to support our Wookiee – he’s leaning against a ground-level section of 4×4. (And yes, Chewie sacrificed a limb to the winter deities a few seasons back.)

And here, at about 6:20 p.m.:

Further updates as events warrant.

SnowChewie 2: Wookiee Boogaloo

Given the Impending DoomSnow that's supposed to whump down on us tonight & tomorrow, I present the "before" shot of the galactically-recognized Giant Vintage Chewie Scale, taken at about 6:45 p.m., just after the snow was starting to come down in North Canton:

As of 8:45 or so, the snow had kind of changed to fine ice, so there's not much registering on Chewie. He'll be out there all night though, so we'll check him in the morning.

Chewie’s back on duty.

"You know that feeling when you reach THAT part of walking into a cold pool? Yeah. Tell me about it."

Galactically-recognized Giant Vintage Chewie Snow Scale

Giant vintage Kenner Chewbacca reported to his post at approximately 9 p.m. EST Fri. Feb. 5, when the snowfall had reached the point pictured. For the record, his monitoring position was devoid of snow earlier in the day.

He has been instructed to radio Echo Base immediately if Mr. Tumnus shows up.

"Send Rogues 10 and 11 to Station 38 with some Turkish Delight."

“The scary part,” Chewie said…

…is that I'm standing on Han's shoulders!"

(No, not really.)Photo taken just prior to 3 p.m. For the record, most of the snowfall has come since this morning: Even around 7 a.m., both hands of the galactically-recognized Giant Vintage Chewie Scale were still above the snow, although his right one had an icicle hanging from it.

Snow's still falling, so there might be another measurement or two to come. Meanwhile, I'm going to check out a meteorite that hit near here. Won't take long.

The Wookiee in Winter

About five years ago, I started measuring our heavier snowfalls using the galactically-recognized Giant Vintage Kenner Chewbacca scale.

January, 2009

It’s been a particularly wintry winter here in Northeast Ohio, and I was asked recently how Chewie was faring this season.

Truth is…he quit. Just up and disappeared. Then, this weekend, a friend emails me a link to these pictures on Facebook:

Ah. Looks like Chewie headed for warmer climes.

… and maybe wanted to play tourist.

Oh. Well then. I hope he’s partyyying responsiblyyy.

(Chewie’s confession in the caption: “I don’t remember this.”)

Huge thanks for these pictures to über-talented photo geek extraordinaire Jim Carchidi, who once again goes above and beyond in responding to a nerdy request. He’s put this whole Chewie gallery in a public Facebook gallery, and you should go check out his portfolio, especially if you’re a fan of portraits, concert photography, Bike Week in Daytona, or Star Wars stuff.

Wookiee Whiteout

As of roughly 5:45 a.m. EST, that little bump is the only visible clue to Giant Vintage Kenner Chewbacca’s whereabouts

"Ha! That stupid probe droid'll NEVER find me now..."

So, yeah, holy shit, we got a lot of snow last night.
